Increase our Faith. . . in Forgiveness

In yesterday's gospel the apostles ask Jesus to "increase our faith."  Our homilist explained that the preceding passage set forth Jesus' command to forgive "seven times seven" times.  He offered some helpful hints on forgiveness.
1.  Forgiveness is a choice, not an emotion.
2.  Forgiveness, like physical fitness, takes practice.  It cannot be acquired on the couch.
3.  Forgiveness is not foolish; it does not necessarily forget, but acts prudently.
4.  Forgiveness is unilaterally given.  Reconciliation is bilateral.  Forgiveness makes reconciliation more likely but it may not follow.
5.  Forgiveness brings peace and joy, anger and resentment the opposite.
Therefore, forgive!
